About Me
Hi, I’m Jo Devall, a jazz singer based in London. I originally trained in opera and have performed and played musical theatres across the UK. My love of jazz has taken me on a journey performing in jazz venues and festivals for the past twenty years. I sang at The Cork Jazz festival no less than 4 times and have worked with many seasoned musicians including John China, Roland Perrin (Composer) and Terry Davis. I have spent many years regularly performing at the Mill Hill Jazz Club. I have also performed at many corporate events and sang in St James Palace. I have an exceptionally wide repertoire which covers jazz standards from Ella Fitzgerald to Norah Jones as well as Cabaret and Motown.
I have recorded with jazz musician Jeremy Shoham who said
“Jo’s voice and delivery can move from a languid Ricky Lee Jones type of delivery to a steely Christine Aguilera timbre in the space of a couple of bars. She doesn’t really scat but she does embellish melody in the most surprising and personal way. If you want to hear a vocalist who does her own thing with exceptional craft and passion and isn’t that interested in trying to sound like someone else – check her out.”
I trained with jazz singer Anita Wardell who said to me
"Jo, you know how to perform and move people emotionally.
You really are a star darling."
